“Here” matches with “there” and “where.”
You “hear” with your “ear.”
Here
Like “there,” “here” answers the question, “Where?”
Avoid “this here” except in informal dialogue.
Hear
How do we hear? With our ear, of course.
Examples:
- I can hear the horses now. They’re here in the barn.
- (“hear” = what you do with your ear)
- (“here” = where, in this place)
- I didn’t hear them at first, before they came in here.
- (“hear” = what you do with your ear
- (“here” = where)
- “This
herehorse kicked me hard. I can still feel and hear the thud of his hoof.”- (“This here” acceptable in informal dialogue. This will say something about your character’s education.)
- (“hear” = what you do with your ear)
