



Advice (with a soft “s” sound)
“Ice” is a noun, a thing. “Advice” is a noun, what you give someone to help them make a decision.
Advise (with a “z” sound)
“Is” is a verb. “Advise” is a verb, what you do when you speak to someone about making a decision.
Examples:
- Free advice is often worth just what it costs (except here, where you will have to work to learn it).
- (“advICE” = noun)
- I would advise you to not eat quite so much at Thanksgiving dinner.
- (“advISe” = verb)
- Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.
- (“advICE” = noun)
- The coach advised the players to avoid penalties.
- (“advISed” = past tense of “advISe,” verb)
